Story behind the song
The scripture verse--1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 shows us
that beyond this life in Jesus we have assurance.
Lyrics
This life is like a fragile breeze,
It ebbs, it wanes--no guarantees,
From where it comes and when it goes
--is not for this world to know,
But, we've a pow'r to help us cope,
In Jesus Christ, we place our hope,
In God's own word, simple and pure,
--we take our rest--we rest assured,
For Jesus slept and rose again,
A triumph o'er both death and sin,
His promise is-- we'll rise and go
--on the day that trumpet blows,
For in the twinkling of an eye,
He'll raise us to a place on high,
A place that will ever endure
--and in that place we'll rest assured,
(chorus)
Rest assured, rest assured
--that all who rest in Him,
Have not just passed away from life
--but soon, will rise again,
So, don't weep like the world would do
--in ignorance--a temporal view,
For we rely on other strengths
to fathom this life at length,
In Christ's "first fruit" and sacrifice
--God's promise stands and will suffice,
The Word of God--forever yours,
So, rest in peace, now rest assured,
(chorus)
