John is a bag boy
?At the grocery store
?An odd sort of title
?For a man forty-four
But bag-man seems awkward
?And John doesn't mind
?I speak to him often
?He's there all the time
He's mentally challenged
?He told me himself
?While I shopped for dinner?
And he stocked a shelf
I told him I'm crazy
?And that made him laugh
?It's curious how God
?Puts folks in our path
Am I here for you
?Or are you here for me?
?I guess it is mutual
?John says he'd agree
Little by little
?The world grows each day
?For, a man like John,
?Once, would have been "put away".
Mentally challenged
?Seems awfully defined
?But John isn't stupid
?And most folks are kind
?
The rest, he says softly,
?He'd kick out the door,
?We should all be like John?
At the grocery store
Yes, John is a bag boy
?He does his job well
?In his voice, slightly slurred,
?It is easy to tell
That despite slow delivery
?And a look slightly odd
?Yes, John is a bag boy
?And a gift sent from God
John is a bag boy
And a gift from God
