Dear Fellow Soundclickers, Real friendship via the Internet is not easy to achieve. But I know Steve Gilmore achieved that with me, and I believe he did with many others here as well. So it is with a truly heavy heart, that I announce to any who had not yet heard, that we recently lost one of the most beloved members of this online community on January 9 of 2024. Steve was a mainstay of these boards in the past decades; I believe he was a vital part of why Soundclick was the best online musical site on the Net. His tireless service to his fellow musicians will never be forgotten by those who read his reviews, by those who eagerly awaited those reviews, and by those who were improved by the insights he had to share. During the past several years, Steve battled with cancer, but never in that time did he complain to me about that fact, even when the disease made playing an instrument quite difficult. He was thankful for the time he had and used it creatively. At one point, Steve shared with me that he had contracted COVID along with the cancer and between them they had done a number on his voice and his hands. Yet through it all, Steve kept producing music and writing his novels. This past year we actually collaborated on a song for the first time. This Christmas I received a copy of his novel “I was so much Older Then.” Sadly, I didn't finish reading it before Steve passed, I had looked forward to giving him my impressions. Steve, you are gone from here and I hope to see you on the other side, where the music is best and pain can't stop the playing. I deeply appreciate the joy you gave to me and others when you so evidently enjoyed our music and were able to explain why. I only fractionally less enjoyed the times when you made me realize I could do better. Thanks for kindly and helpful criticism. When these boards shut down, one of the main elements in my sadness was that I wouldn't be able to get a monthly fix of your insights. I had so much hoped that you would be able to encore when the boards reactivated, but that wasn't to be. To Steve's family and friends, my deepest sympathy and condolence on your loss, may God comfort you in every memory of this remarkable man. You can hear Steve's music at “Steve Gilmore and In No Sense” Grace, Cam

It's taken me a bit of time to want to put up something as I still find it hard to know Steve has actually gone. I 've known him since 2002. We virtually bumped into each other on a long forgotten music site where we got to listen to each others creations and were able to pass our respective comments. I watched as Steve progressively got involved critiquing other musicians music on this and other sites as well as creating some great music. I loved Steve's style of reviewing as it always gave further insights in how to improve the works. We both made efforts to try and meet up but due a lot different reasons this never came to pass, although we did chat frequently.

I loved the fact that he got into writing of which, again, he showed a fab talent.

Steve is very much missed by me and a whole slew of people.

Steve was a thoughtful and kind soul with a great ear for what made a song shine. Very sad to hear this.

aware only of Steve's music through Cam's posting of song competition in Steve's memory, but now listening to his catalogue and getting chance to appreciate Steve's work - what a great and accomplished artist Steve was/is...stay shining bright Steve and tear a hole in that night sky as you light a trail for all of us to follow...vale Steve!

This is so sad to hear. Steve was such a fundamental part of my development as an artist, giving me confidence in my songwriting while also not being afraid to tell me if he thought something I submitted was crap. He was such a great guy that really cared about the music scene here, and the amount of work he put into his reviews is unparalleled

I made friends with Steve back in 2002. As well as being a fantastic reviewer on Soundclick, he also became a reviewer and FNL judge on my POP OMD platform for independent musicians.
I got to meet Steve in London in 2010 to make a documentary and again in 2011 and 2012. I even had the honor of Steve visiting my home with another good friend, Andrea Ianni.
Steve wrote some beautiful reviews of my own music, and for many others - ALL treasured I know.
Steve was incredibly talented himself musically, and as a published writer. He will be missed by many as a friend, and as a massive supporter of independent music. Thank you Steve Gilmore.
Film I made of Steve in 2010 ... It reflects Steve's passion for independent music well.
